A. D. Mougin Antique Rococo Clock Set~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A simply stunning original antique French Rococo clock set by the famous maker A. D. Mougin. It is of a good size, elegantly modelled in gilded brass in typical Rococo style. The case is waisted with fretted front and sides that allows a glimpse of the pendulum swinging within. It is decorated with foliate and floral swags, 'C' scrolls and an elaborate finial to the top. Candelabra have bold bases, urns and three branches modelled as acanthus. This is a very decorative set, ready to display.
The dial is the most sought after cream enamel with black lettering and separate minute ring. It has blued steel hands and convex glass fitted to the Rococo bezel. The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition, no damage but an area of restoration to the lower half that is very slightly discoloured. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
