The Curved fretted panels backed with red velvet are inserted into the sides, with a smaller one to the front and rear. The design is beautifully bold and heavily modelled in bronze, well chased and finished. The clock is modelled in the round, you could display it very well on a table or desk. The dial is enamel on copper with the Raingo Freres signature. The original hands are beautifully fretted and gilded, the glass is original. Unusually the case, bezel, movement and pendulum are all marked with the serial number, confirming their originality.

Zacharie Raingo was apprenticed in Paris in 1790 and went on to establish Raingo Freres in 1813. Initially specialising in precision astronomical clocks and then after 1825 clocks and bronzes. Clients included the Emperor and Empress. The firm exhibited at many of the important exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century and was known for the fine quality of its ormolu.

The French movement is by Raingo Freres and is of high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in very good condition just some nibbles around the winding holes and some faint marks. There are some light scratches on the original glass and a very light dent in the back door. We have replaced the red velvet.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
